Freedom Fighters Crops Up in New PEGI Rating, Hints at Possible Comeback [Updated]

Update: Freedom Fighters has been re-released, as expected, but only for PC -- via Steam, Epic Games Store, and, on Windows 10. It seems our dreams of a console remaster or re-release won't be happening after all. But then, you could always purchase an original Xbox version and play it on Xbox Series X, which will apparently offer full backwards compatibility with all Xbox games when it launches this November.

Original Story:

Released in 2003 by Hitman developer IO Interactive, Freedom Fighters could be set to make a return, if a new PEGI rating (spotted on ResetEra) is to be believed. While the rating is currently for PC only, it'd be silly to expect a Freedom Fighters remake or an entirely new entry not to make its way to consoles.

Originally released by EA for Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and PC, Freedom Fighters was a third-person shooter that saw you playing as plumber Christopher Stone, who becomes a resistance leader in a fight against Soviet invaders on the streets of New York City.

With IO Interactive currently hard at work on Hitman 3, it could be some time before we see anything of a potential Freedom Fighters remaster, remake, or re-release, and it could be that the game will be simply re-issued as a backwards compatible original Xbox title.

Freedom Fighters certainly has enough of a cult following that fans would clamour for a new game or a re-release, so fingers crossed this happens and that it comes to consoles, too.
