PUBG Corp has announced that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has now sold more than 70 million units, ahead of the arrival of Season 8 later this month. Season 8 will mark a return to the jungles of Sanhok, which is due to be completely remastered, rendering it an overgrown, abandoned paradise, as well as better adapted to increase visual fidelity, and address overall balance and performance.

Update 8.1 will also add the Loot Truck on the roads of Sanhok, which when damaged will drop loot. Should you manage to destroy the truck, you'll be rewarded with a large cache of weapons and gear for your squad, including fully-customised 'confiscated' weapons with pre-installed attachments and skins. The update also brings improved Jerry Cans, enabling you to pour gas on the ground and set it alight, or toss it at an enemy.

As well as a new Ranked Season with changes to scoring for Update 8.1, the Sanhok map remaster will see "almost every structure, tree, rock, and material" in the environment rebuilt from scratch, based on data and player feedback. Multiple locations have been given an extensive redesign and art upgrade, with the Boot Camp, Ruins, Pai Nan, Khao, and Quarry areas given a major overhaul. Vikendi will also be added to the Ranked map pool.

Sanhok will receive new locations to explore, too, including 'Getaway' and the bootcamp 'Airfield' when PUBG Season 8 heads to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Stadia on 30th July (and on the console test server from 20th July), alongside the new Survivor Pass: Payback with various skins to unlock across Sanhok.
