Fable & Perfect Dark Twitter Accounts Spark Speculation, Xbox Responds

Written By

Xbox has played down the importance of two placeholder Twitter accounts for Fable and Perfect Dark that had sparked excitement among fans.

On Saturday 27th June, journalist Tom Warren reported that Twitter accounts @fable and @PerfectDarkGame were both locked and titled 'Placeholder', with the Fable account registered to a Microsoft email address and the Perfect Dark account followed only by Perfect Dark producer Ken Lobb. These discoveries led to speculation that we'd be getting announcements for new titles in both franchises soon, possible at the Xbox Game Studios event in July.

However, Xbox's Aaron Greenberg was quick to throw cold water on these theories, saying, "I know everyone is hungry for news, but sorry to get your hopes up. These accounts have been inactive for years, it’s standard practice to secure social handles for our IP."

Strangely, it later turned out the Perfect Dark Twitter account was fan owned, or at least that is what the account claims. The chances of this being some viral marketing strategy are extremely low, but it's always fun to speculate.

So if you saw these Twitter accounts over the weekend, it may be best not to get your hopes up, although we wouldn't be surprised to see Fable and Perfect Dark games for Xbox Series X. Regardless, we should find out more about Xbox's first party line up next month.
